Rethinking University Management to Strengthen Student Participation: An Exploratory Practice-Oriented Study

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines how higher-education management shapes student engagement and how updated governance practices can expand participation in academic and extracurricular life. Under conditions of globalization and digital transformation, conventional administrative models often struggle to respond to increasingly diverse student needs. Using quantitative and qualitative evidence together with cases of institutional practice, the research compares strategies such as digital management platforms, participatory decision making, and measures that strengthen student autonomy. The findings indicate that digitally supported, student-centered management improves engagement, retention-related conditions, academic participation, and students' sense of belonging. Participation in institutional decision making further increases students' involvement and supports stronger academic and personal outcomes. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for universities seeking to modernize management, broaden inclusive governance, and make effective use of digital tools.
