Defining High-Quality Growth in Private Art Colleges and Identifying Practical Development Routes

Abstract

Abstract: As Chinese higher education moves from scale expansion toward quality-centered development, private art colleges face growing pressure to strengthen their internal capacity and distinctive missions. Drawing on domestic and international scholarship and combining questionnaires, interviews, and case analysis, this study develops a multidimensional account of high-quality development for these institutions. It identifies unclear positioning, uneven faculty composition, limited industry-education collaboration, and immature governance as major constraints. Six corresponding routes are proposed: sharpen institutional strategy, improve teaching systems, deepen cooperation with industry, redesign internal governance, strengthen faculty development, and expand cultural-service capacity. The study argues that sustainable progress requires a specialized, connotation-oriented, and collaborative model supported by multiple stakeholders, and it offers practical guidance for policymakers and institutional leaders.
